How to commission a lampshade
Tell me about hand stitched lampshades?
In most high street lampshades, the fabric is stuck to the frame, either with glue or with sticky tape. High street lampshades also tend to be mass-produced, which makes them cheaper to manufacture.
My lampshades are all hand stitched, using traditional lampshade making techniques. The lampshade frame is wrapped with cotton tape, which acts as a foundation to which the outer fabric and lining are stitched. It takes longer to make a lampshade that way, which is why they end up costing more than a high street version.
Who do you work with?
I work with interior designers and private clients. Scroll down to see some images of my recent work.
Don’t know where to start?
Not a problem, I’m happy to talk you through the options and advise on sourcing appropriate frames and fabrics. Just send me a message either through the contact form on this website or via Instagram.
Got your own frame and / or fabric?
Perfect - just show me what you’ve got and we can talk about how to turn it into a finished piece. I’m happy to work with new frames, or to reuse a vintage frame. Sometimes the older ones are definitely the best.
How long does it take?
Lead times are usually around 6-8 weeks from receipt of frame and fabrics. But I will always try to make pieces sooner if I can.
